About Us

The Department of History was established in 1973. It has rigorous BS, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs. The focus of the Department is Modern South Asia, with additional courses on Medieval India, Modern Europe, and Islamic History.

Vision
The vision of the Department of History is the establishment of the Department of History as the premier social sciences program at the BS, M.Phil., and Ph.D., levels in Pakistan, at least in the public sector. In a social sciences program, the principal determinants of research output are the strength, qualitative and quantitative, of the faculty, and the level of enthusiasm and competence of the students enrolled.

The Department provides its students access to a state of the art computer lab with more than a dozen computers equipped with Internet access and a local network for printing and scanning purposes.

The Computer Lab is open from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM (MON-FRI).

The Department includes a 3500 volume Seminar Library stocked with useful books on ancient civilizations, modern European, medieval, and modern South Asia, the Quaid-i-Azam, Pakistan movement and Pakistani history, research methodology, and the philosophy of history, the United States, Central Asia, Afghanistan, and Kashmir. Furthermore, a reference section that consists of essays, theses, dissertations, encyclopedias, journals, and a complete record of parliamentary debates from 1962 to 1999. Thus, well over half of the reading requirements of our students are met by the Seminar Library. In the event that students require further materials, the Central Library includes over 100,000 volumes.
Library timings are 9:00 AM to 3:30 pm (MON-FRI).
The Quaid-i-Azam University campus has a gymnasium and several fields, grounds, and courts, for recreational purposes. Every year an intra-university sports tournament in a wide variety of games, ranging from cricket to table tennis, is held.
The Quaid-i-Azam University boasts six hostels located within walking distance of the departments. Admissions to the hostels are made on a first come first served basis at the start of each semester.
