MPhil ProgramThe program of study and research leading to M. Phil, degree in History is spread over two years (minimum period). It consists of a two semester 24 credit hours course work and dissertation of 26 credit hours on a subject approved by the Department.

The M.Phil degree is normally to be completed within four consecutive semesters. Dissertation based on research is normally to be completed by the end of the fourth semester. Teaching in various courses is conducted in the department through lectures, group discussions, seminars, presentations, research papers or any other method according to a teacher’s requirement. Each course carries 100 marks of which 50% are reserved for the class tests (sessional examinations) or assignments and 50% for the terminal examination. The M.Phil dissertation research work is undertaken under the guidance of a Supervisor. Medium of instruction is English.

Admission Criterion
To be eligible for admission to M. Phil., a candidate should have
  • An M.A/M.Sc. degree in History.
  • Obtained 1st division in M.A/M.Sc. or B.A/B.Sc.
  • Not obtained 3rd division in B.A/B.Sc. or M.A./M.Sc.
  • In case of a third division in F.A/F.Sc., the candidate should have obtained first division in both B.A/B.Sc. and M.A/M.Sc.
